The Castle-Palace of the Marquises of Villafranca, heritage and residence of the Caro family since the 15th century, opens its doors to transform into a living stage. Today, as the private residence of our artistic director Pedro Halffter Caro, this historical monument allows us to offer a unique experience: those who join us cease to be spectators to become guests of the family, sharing chamber music in its purest conception and absolute intimacy.
This festival is born as a profound tribute to the great pianist from Villafranca, Marita Caro, and the illustrious composer and conductor Cristóbal Halffter. Internationally renowned composer and conductor, Pedro Halffter Caro is the soul and driving force of this festival. Heir to an extraordinary musical tradition, he assumes the artistic direction with the firm purpose of turning Villafranca del Bierzo into a cultural epicenter, transforming the architectural heritage every summer into a unique stage where musical excellence embraces history.
Recognized as one of the most versatile figures in music today, he has developed an international career marked by the dialogue between the great symphonic repertoire, opera, and contemporary creation. As artistic and musical director, he has led important institutions and orchestras, including the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, consolidating himself as an interpreter with a broad artistic vision.
As a composer, his works have been premiered in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Konzerthaus in Dortmund. Furthermore, as a lecturer, he brings music closer to the public from a lively perspective, revealing the expressive keys of great composers at the piano.
